Once you understand the power your donation has to end homelessness, why not continue to give?
An annual gift can multiply your impact, helping more homes happen, giving more people a solid foundation to rebuild their lives and ensuring more people find their place in the community again.
The good feeling you get from your donation – as well as the impact you are having – can go on and on and on.
Message from The President
Every year at Thanksgiving I gather with my family to share a delightful meal. Before we jump into the delectable feast set before us, we go around the table and say a few words about the many things for which we are thankful. I am grateful for this time with my family and this time for reflection, there is so much to be thankful for and we are blessed to have Thanksgiving every year to remind us to take the time to acknowledge them.
This Thanksgiving, I was humbled to share that, in this year alone, because of your support, 940 previously homeless individuals and families can now start their own Thanksgiving tradition in their own home. In fact, because of you, over 8,000 people have been housed since 2008. Imagine the Thanksgiving traditions that have been started in that time!
Recently members of the CHF Client Action Committee, a group of individuals with lived experience in homelessness who work in collaboration with the Calgary Homeless Foundation to promote the rights and freedoms of the homeless community and reduce the stigma currently attached to homelessness, shared with us what it means to them to have a home. Here are just a few responses:
“Security of a home makes me feel stronger.”
“A home helps me feel included in my community, and creates stability, better health and independence.”
“Gives me opportunity to participate in community activities.”
“Home gives the opportunity to… and the freedom to give back to those who can’t help themselves.”
“I am safe and secure so now I’m in a position to help others, I can be generous and give back.”
Imagine! Since 2008, more than 8,000 people in Calgary feel stronger, healthier and safe because of you. Imagine! Where once there was only the darkness of homelessness, over 8,000 people live with gratitude and the possibility to give back. You helped make this happen. Your leadership and compassion in our community has given us the resources we needed to create the space for people who have experienced homelessness to heal, to thrive and to give back.
This Thanksgiving, we invite you to continue the giving tradition and consider supporting the Calgary Homeless Foundation. Your donation will make it possible for more Thanksgiving traditions to come alive and ultimately, reach our collective goal – to end homelessness in Calgary.
Thank you for supporting the Calgary Homeless Foundation. From my family to yours, I wish you many blessings this Thanksgiving and throughout the year.
