COVID-19: FAQ
If I am experiencing homelessness and might have COVID-19, can I be tested?
Yes. If you are experiencing homelessness, you can be pre-screened and (if deemed appropriate by a medical professional) tested for COVID-19. We encourage you to connect with the agency you most commonly access to understand your best option for testing. If your agency is unsure how to support the individual, please contact 811.
I am symptomatic and have nowhere to go to self-isolate. What should I do?
Several shelters in the city have created isolation spaces. Please access these shelters for pre-screening and triage by medical personnel based on Alberta Health Service guidelines.
We also encourage you to consider the Assisted Self-Isolation Site managed by The Alex. This site is for individuals experiencing homelessness who are symptomatic or have a confirmed case of COVID-19 and do not require hospitalization. People will be pre-screened and triaged into the site through hospital emergency departments and at emergency shelters by medical personnel, as per Alberta Health guidelines.
I’m scared to go to shelter where can I go instead? How can I get help?
Please visit see Our Resources to find out where you can obtain help.
What information can I share to help Calgarians experiencing homelessness if they appear to be symptomatic?
If you see a person who appears to be experiencing homelessness and appears to be symptomatic (or in medical distress) please call 911 and warn EMS if it may be a potential COVID-19 case.
