Art Smith (1919-2008) was a politician, businessman and local icon who founded Calgary Homeless Foundation in 1998 as a response to the homelessness crisis in the city.
Known for his charisma and entrepreneurial spirit, Art rallied governments, the business community and agencies to the cause, strengthening our partnerships and helping launch Calgary’s 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness. By the time of his death in 2008, he had laid the groundwork for Calgary Homeless Foundation to serve as the authoritative guide on the fight against homelessness in our city.
Today, we continue the work that Art began. Find out more about our founder’s extraordinary life and contributions.
